March 28-29, 2009
Saturday:Anesthesia and pain management, basic peri-odontal
therapy, dental radiology, instrument care
• 4hours of lecture and
4 hours of hands on laboratory
•O pen to veterinarians, technicians,
and assistants
Attendees will gain expertise in performing a dental
prophy-laxis including scaling and root planning, oral exam, and
charting. This will focus on the unique and delicate needsof the
feline patient. Instrument care and sharpening will be covered.
The
second half of the laboratory will be dedicated to felinedental
radiology. All attendees will gain experience in exposing full
mouth dental radiographs WITHOUT having tomeasure bisecting angles.
A focus of this laboratory will beproper imaging of the maxillary
premolar teeth using theextra-oral and near parallel techniques.
In addition, veteri-narians will gain valuable knowledge in feline
dental radi-ographic interpretation.
Sunday Morning: Basic extraction
techniques
• Open to veterinarians, technicians, and technicians
intraining
• 1hour lecture and 3 hours of hands on laboratory
The
lecture will discuss equipment needs and pain management. This
will include lecture and laboratory sessions dedicated to regional
anesthesia (nerve blocks). We will discuss the importance of dental
radiographs in feline extractions, proper performance of crown
amputation for tooth restoration in felines, and techniques for
both single and double root teeth. Techniques covered in the lecture
will be reinforced in the hands on laboratory session.
This is
STRONGLY recommended for veterinarians taking the afternoon laboratory.
Sunday Afternoon: Advanced extraction techniques
• 1hour lecture and 3 hours of hands on laboratory
This
laboratory is designed for veterinarians with significant extraction
experience. Building upon the morning session, we will initiate
with flap creation and progress to buccalbone removal, extraction,
and closure. This lab will cover carnassial, molar, and canine
extractions, as well as extraction of fractured and retained roots,
and ONF repair.
