Level II Dental Weekend

Saturday
Morning: Advanced non-surgical periodontal therapy
• Open to veterinarians, technicians, and assistants
• 30 minutes lecture and 4 hours of hands-on laboratory
Learn advanced intricacies of both hand and ultrasonic instrumentation to achieve excellent level of disease control (prerequisite for afternoon periodontal lab)

Afternoon–
Veterinarians: Periodontal surgery
• 1 hour lecture and 4 hours of hands-on laboratory Learn advanced periodontal surgery procedures to save periodontally diseased teeth including: apical repositioning flaps, coronal repositioning flaps, and guided tissue regeneration.


Afternoon–
Technicians and assistants: Equipment and instrument care
• 1 hour lecture and 3 hours of hands-on laboratory This section provides detailed instruction on proper care of instruments and dental equipment. Topics include sharpening of curettes and dental elevators, cleaning and sterilization, and basic maintenance of dental machines (scalers and high speeds).


Sunday

Morning: Composite bonding
• Open to veterinarians, technicians, and assistants
• 1 hour lecture and 3 hours of hands-on laboratory
Attendees will learn how to perform bonded composites
in veterinary dentistry. Indications, preparation, techniques, and mechanics of bonding will be covered in the preparatory lecture. The wet-lab offers attendees the opportunities to place unfilled resins in uncomplicated crown fractures.


Afternoon–
Veterinarians:
Enamel hypoplasia and caries restoration

• 1 hour lecture and 3 hours of hands-on laboratory Building on the techniques learned in the morning, attendees will learn how to prepare the tooth for restoration, place the bonding agent and restoration, and finish the restoration for the most common defects in dogs.

Afternoon–Technicians and assistants: Advanced dental radiology techniques
• 30 minutes lecture and 4 hours of hands-on laboratory


This lab will cover advanced dental radiograph techniques to achieve quality radiographs of difficult teeth of dogs and cats including: the maxillary fourth premolar (SLOB technique in dogs, extraoral and near parallel techniques in cats), rostral mandibular premolars in dogs and cats, mandibular third molars in small dogs. Different techniques for bracheocephalic dogs will also be covered. Previous radiology experience, classes are required.
